Fennesz – Bécs
Fennesz’ new album »Bécs«, released by Austrian lablel Editions Mego is a landmark of abstract pop. Bécs (pronounced ‘baeetch’) is Hungarian for Vienna and is the first full length Fennesz solo release since 2008’s »Black Sea«.
The source material for the album artwork comes from the construction area around Vienna’s new main train station due to be opened around 2015. The images on the inside shed a hazy light on this area. It seems like a dense fog was distorting a landscape that consists of building lodges, containers and a landscape built of many streetlamps.
The outside of the album was constructed manually out of pieces from a photography of the future trainstation. If Vienna’s trainstation was your first impression of coming into town, assuming you were coming from the east, this first touch point should seem like a futuristic version of vienna with a dark and cineastic note.
